Balanced Hybrid Hi Biscus

Hi-Biscus

One of the more floral strains I’ve smoked recently is Hi-Biscus, a strain that popped up on my radar after noticing a patient at the dispensary coming back several times in a week for it. I was never much of a fan of hibiscus flavored drinks I’d tried during my days as a barista and hadn’t planned on picking any of this strain, but I’m glad I Tried-Biscus. This is one of the more delicious smokes I’ve experienced since last I smoked Blueberry Muffins. This hybrid strain smells like its namesake and as soon as the bag was opened the air was filled with an aroma similar to the teas and juices I’d had before. Hi-Biscus was created in 2017 by a man named Ronnie of 8-Mile Family Farms by crossing Zkittles and Blueberry Muffins parent strains. No wonder it tastes so good! We end up with a plant that is just as flavorful as it is aromatic and perfect for those that enjoy a relaxing strain they can puff on all day.

I was able to get my hands on a gram of Hi-Biscus from Bison and brought it home for research purposes. The buds I broke up were an olive green with dark orange pistols and their scent filled the room as soon as I opened the bag. Breaking it up released the hibiscus aroma into the air in an explosion that had a floral sweetness but pungent sour bite as well. This transferred over into the flavor of the smoke which remained heavy on the exhale with a taste that was also floral but slightly sour. An interesting thing about hibiscus flowers is that most don’t give off the smell we associate with them until made into hibiscus concentrate. Not to be confused with Hi-Biscus concentrates like waxes, sugars, shatters, and crumbles (although now I’d like to concentrate on finding some Hi-Biscus concentrate). This strain left me feeling relaxed but not to the point I became stuck to the couch or had to take a nap. I was able to go through my day without needing a nap even though I’d been awake since 3am. I was definitely yawning but I think it had to do with my lack of T-H-Sleep rather than any effects of the strain. Hi-Biscus is known to increase appetite and I definitely ate four meals the day I smoked it! Others report the strain excellent for anxiety, pain relief, lack of appetite, inflammation, and nausea.

The dominant terpenes of Hi-Biscus are terpinolene, myrcene, and pinene. While terpinolene is considered a minor terpene in cannabis it is found in high quantities in strains I’m fond of like Durban Poison and Golden Goat. Terpinolene has a complex and unique scent profile giving off floral, citrus, and herbal scents all at once rather than the more singular scents given off by the terpenes we’ve already explored. As the most dominant terpene in Hi-Biscus it is no wonder this strain produces buds that smell and taste so amazing. Terpinolene plays a role in flavor in all the strains it is found in thanks to its more robust profile, and you can expect strains higher in it to be quite pungent. Terpinolene can also be found in things like cumin, lilacs, and nutmeg and is believed to have uplifting effects. Strains high in terpinolene are also THC dominant or balanced rather than CBD dominant. While most of the strains we hear so much about and see in stores are THC dominant cannabis strains that are higher in CBD also have a lot to offer. We’ll be See-B-D-ing one of those strains in next week’s post. In the meantime, I hope you get a chance to stop and smoke the flowers.

Joking and Toking:

The doctor from last week didn’t seem amused and asked if there was anything else she could help with. I told her I have a cough that just won’t go away and she said that’s called a chronic cough. That actually made sense though because chronic is the only thing I smoke!
